[It's New Feather season, and there's a redhead with yellow wings looking a little bit lost as she wanders through the village. She can be found looking in the clothes shop and the item shop, then stopping to look at the windows of the flower shop, looking a little bit dazzled.

Eventually, she'll settle in front of the fountain and leaf through the first few pages of her journal.]

[Vanille's in her normal clothes when the video starts, and she looks just a little skeptical before she realizes that it's actually working. She gets technology, but this? This is a little strange.]

Oh, so this does work! I've never talked through a book before.

[She laughs a little, seeming all too pleased with herself, and waves.]

I'm Vanille! I guess it's pretty clear by the first part that I'm new around here, huh? It's nice to meet you!

[A moment's pause.]

...I guess you get a lot of people looking for their friends when they first get here, and I'm probably not the first who's asked, but I have to try. Does anyone know a woman named Fang? Or a woman named Lightning? Or two men, Sazh or Snow, or a boy named Hope? Or a girl about my age, named Serah...they couldn't have brought little Dajh here, he's way too young to be away from his daddy...

Right! If you're there, well, I'll be by the fountain!

And I have a question for everyone else! Is it always so pretty like this? It must be nice, having the forest so close. And the mountains, too! Even if there are monsters or something out there, I want to see all of it!

Hello, Vanille! Welcome to Luceti. I'm not sure if I know the people you're talking about. [He's been looking after the housing lists at the Welcome Center, so some names at least ring a bell.] I think there's someone named Serah in the village, but I haven't met her so I don't know if she's who you're looking for. But I do know a baby named Hope!

That's all right! It doesn't mean they won't turn up eventually, right? And it's always good to make new friends.

[She smiles brightly.]

I'm glad. It must, with so much pretty scenery around! I just love being out in nature.

The Hope I know is between my age and yours. But with a name like that, they're going to be a really special person when they grow up. I think everyone named Hope has to be. It goes with the name!

Miiight wanna ask about the kids too. There's not a minimum cut of age here, Vanille-chan.

What do you mean? He's...couldn't be more than five or six. They couldn't take him away from his dad, right?

Ikki's seven, away from her folks. And I'm pretty sure that kid, Elicia-chan, is younger than that.

But that's - it's not - this kid's already been through so much, it's not fair to ask him to be separated from his dad, if his dad isn't here...and the others, too...

As for the pretty! You know it, though it being sprig helps. Winter's a bit blizzard paradise, iiiif you're into that.

It just makes me want to march down to the Malnosso's headquarters and give them a piece of my mind! What are they even thinking, kids that little...

[She's got a lot of feelings on this, seeing as she never really knew her own parents - they died when she was little. She thinks kids that have parents who love them ought to be with them, and that's that. But fortunately, she's easy to distract.]

...but that's probably a bad idea, huh? And wow, I can only imagine the village all covered in snow! It must be so pretty...and the fall, too, with all the leaves changing colors, right?

I haven't heard any if those names, sorry. [Not that he felt he was the last word on all this, but better to let her know right away, right? But was she talking about a little kid...?]

As for the place, this is the nicest I've seen it since I arrived, there was snow all the time back then.

Vanille... You're back. [ There was something about her that was likable and friendly. Tenten remembers how she wrote a brief newbie's guide about showing up and observations about arrivals and departures and then promptly disappeared. Tenten's lost access to it by now, but it's interesting to see her again. ]

I've been here for about a year and a half now. When I first arrived, I talked to you shortly after I showed up and then you went home. [ Someone had to break the news to her. ] It's nice to see you're still okay! Even if I wish that you weren't here cause Luceti isn't all that pleasant sometimes.

That's all right! I'm sure they'll turn up eventually.

[She hums thoughtfully.]

It really is pretty in spring, isn't it? I love seeing all the flowers and things like that. My home village always had flowers around it, so it reminds me of that, a little.

[Vanille honestly sounds confused, but she hears Tenten out before she says anything else.]

Things always happen for a reason, I reckon. I don't remember being here before, but that's okay. The important thing is that we can be friends again, right?

[She smiles brightly.]

Even if this place is hard sometimes, having friends by your side will always make those hard times easier.

[ The warmer weather the last few days means Serah has been taking every opportunity to get out of her apartment and get some fresh air, especially after all that spring rain. Even with Baldr around, and even with the journal to keep her company, it gets awfully stuffy and lonely locked up inside... and with an older sister like Lightning, the woman is well-used to thinking exercise is for the best.

Of course, it's New Feather season too... but even so, she wasn't really expecting anyone she knew to show up, even as she secretly wished they would. As such, there's a lot of surprise in her voice when she notices this particular message and-- ]

Vanille?!

Serah?! It's really you! But you look so different from the last time I saw you - but I'm so glad to see you're okay!

Where are you - you know what, I'll just meet you halfway to...wherever!

-- Oh!

[ So... so exuberant! Honestly, it takes effort to not only out-cheerful Serah, but to surprise her with it as well. It takes her a moment to process, trying to sort through her thoughts - first Fang was here, now Vanille, outside of the crystal pillar-- Vanille saying she looks different and... ]

I'm ah... I'm in the forest, actually. [ Think, Serah, thiiiiink...! ] To the south of the village.

Well, I don't think you'll have to worry about monsters! Might bump into a few wolves and bears in the forest, but otherwise it's really safe.

[He grins.]

And since you asked, it's always really pretty around here. Spring's definitely great when it's not raining, but if you ask me, the winters take the cake.

In a place like this, time's weird, so we could've just known the same Hope at different ages... but then again I have a feeling we're from different worlds! [After all, someone from his world would have recognized him as the Avatar or an Airbender immediately. But he keeps up a smile.] Either way, I really agree with what you say! I think all the worlds could use a little Hope.

Yep. Summer's something too, what with the heat. But if you ask me, we're in a pretty chilly climate here.

Time's weird, huh? I think the guide I looked at mentioned it. That would explain a lot about why I'm even here. I'm supposed to be asleep, back home!

Even if we're from different worlds, it still applies. Though, wow. Talking to people from different worlds...it's pretty amazing, isn't it?

And it doesn't matter where we're from, you can't ever really have enough Hope, can you?

Now I'm curious. Long winters, spring being too short, or something else entirely?

[It's - well, no. It's more than seeing a familiar face. It's seeing the familiar face looking like she'd just gotten cheered up a whole lot, and enthusiasm being infectious.

More than that, Serah looking different...now that Vanille knows that timelines can be strange, it gives her some hope. She can't know for sure until she talks to Serah, but this is a chance to confirm that she and Fang had really done it, to be absolutely positive that things had actually been okay after she'd made her choice and become part of the crystal pillar.

She doesn't make a conscious choice to go as fast as she can; she's up and on her feet before the thought fully forms in her head.

Vanille fumbles with her journal for a few seconds as she whips her head around and points with one hand, being sure she's gotten her bearings as to which way south is.]

Got it! Actually, just stay where you are, I'll find you! I'm on my way!

[She slams the journal shut and tucks it into her pouch, then goes running. It's going to take Vanille a little while before she finds Serah, even at full speed - her sense of direction isn't perfect, and she gets turned around a couple of times - but eventually, she'll spot her, bounce, and wave.]

Serah! Hey!

That sure takes a load off my mind! There were monsters back at home, so hearing that there's nothing like that out there definitely makes things easier.

[She grins right back.]

That's what everyone's been telling me! It snows like crazy, so I hear. I can't wait!
